Learn to create your home"s unique look and feel with textured sheetrock. You can learn how to texture sheetrock to display your own individual taste and decorative statement throughout your home. The basics of how to texture sheetrock is a matter of using different tools, techniques and various forms to create unique designs. How to Texture Sheetrock Most texturing is done by a machine. The best for an inexperienced person just learning how to texture sheetrock is a hopper gun. This is a large plastic hopper mounted on a metal spray gun. You pour the material into the hopper, attach the spray gun to an air compressor, and then spray the material on the surface to be textured. Variations in the texture materials" thickness, the amount of air pressure and the size of the nozzle you"re using will all determine the look of the texture. Two common textures are orange peel (a very light texture) and knockdown (a thicker texture). Learning how to texture sheetrock is not difficult. It does involve a bit of practice to fine tune your skills. Keeping a larger area uniform does require practice. One way to get the practice before you actually start an area is to hang larger sheets of paper on your wall and practice on the paper, before you attempt the wall. Another method of how to texture sheetrock is to do it by hand. This method will give you the best results if you"re working a smaller space, and want a varied amount of texture. Unless you"ve practiced and are experienced, it will be difficult to keep a uniform look. That"s why if you want variety and larger textures your chances as a novice are better. |
For light texture you can simply use a machine and get a regular textured look. If
it"s swirls and shapes you want you"ll need to learn how to texture sheetrock
by hand. Once your sheetrock is hung and taped and the walls appear seamless, you"re ready to begin. Most professional finishers prefer to prime with a wallboard sealer or primer before you begin to texture. |
